ARC

ARC Day One

The ARC start date is finally here! We were ready to go with a crew of Jill, me, our friend James Lee, and his friends, Kathy and Mike Rigo. We left the dock in Las Palmas at 11 AM. The start was at 12:30 and we were ready. There was very little wind—just 2 to 5 kn.

Everyone was crowded at the start line but we got a nice clean start and got underway. It was very slow going for the first three or four hours. Most of the other boats turned on their engines but we continued to sail. At about 5:30pm the wind dropped to nearly zero so we finally turned on an engine for a few hours. Luckily, a few hours later, while we were motoring away from Gran Canaria, the wind picked up, and we could turn off the engine and sail with our main sail and Code Zero.

We continued like this, sailing comfortably at about 6 kn for the rest of the night.
